Job Description:

Patient Safety Monitoring Tech (PSM) is responsible to fulfill PSM duties. A PSM is a clinical partner for the remote monitoring of patients who are at a high safety risk. PSM duties include, but not limited to, watching and alerting the patient and/or staff in the hospital and/or at home settings when a risk to the patient presents. Monitoring patient within PSM, Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and Intermountain at Home (I@H).

  • Additional Details: Shift differentials given for evenings, nights and weekends

Job Essentials

Patient Care:

Virtual communication and redirection with patient regarding safety measures.

Applies skills and knowledge learned from past experience and CNA training.

Remote Monitoring:

Confirms at the start of each shift the patients who will be monitored.

Continuously monitors the patient for safety concerns.

Coordinates with clinical staff to suspend monitoring when appropriate.

Notifies appropriate clinical staff of changes in patient's behavior.

Documents in iCentra.

Responsible for reporting issues or concerns with remote monitoring equipment.


Collaborates and consults with RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team for best patient care.

Demonstrate effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization.

Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice and performs specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards.

Fosters a safe environment by complying with the safety policy and taking appropriate action in an emergency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certificates in one of the following: Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to identify at risk situations prior to need for intervention or redirection.

  • Ability to multi-task during busy monitoring situations.

  • Ability to use computerized systems to enter and track information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience in an acute care setting.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

  • and -

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • and -

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

May be expected to stand or sit in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
