Job Description:

The resident is a participant in a system training program. The purpose of the residency is to develop knowledge and skills needed to provide pharmaceutical care including the provision of rational pharmacotherapy and the delivery of appropriate product related services to the patients of Intermountain Healthcare. This second year residency builds upon the post-graduate year one residency graduates' competence in the delivery of patient-centered care and in pharmacy operational services to prepare residents who can assume high level specialized leadership responsibilities. Areas of competence emphasized during the program include advanced clinical pharmacy services, safe and effective medication-use systems, quality assurance, the management of human resources, the management of financial resources, use of technology, and advanced leadership.

Scope

  • This individual will function as a licensed pharmacist, and as such will have the responsibility of supervising pharmacy interns and pharmacy technicians, and occasionally undergraduate pharmacy students through the professional experience program.Job EssentialsThe resident will be responsible for all essentials of a clinical pharmacist at Intermountain Healthcare. When staffing, either as part of residency staffing requirement or coverage of additional shifts, resident will exemplify the characteristics of a professional pharmacist and will mentor others in that regard.Increase and improve depth of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities to raise the level of expertise in medication therapy management and clinical leadership in the area of focus. In areas where board certification exists, prepare and pursue such certification.Function independently as a practitioner by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and transforming both into improved medication therapy for patients.The resident will be committed to attaining the program's educational goals and objectives and will support the organization's mission and values. The resident will serve as an exemplary leader to other staff members (pharmacy, nursing, and other clinical disciplines), PGY1 residents and will precept student learners in the resident's area of practice.The resident will take accountability to participate in all evaluations of preceptors or learners, and will provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to improve others abilities as both teachers and learners. The resident will participate in providing professional development opportunities to colleagues across the system, and will be a source of advanced information and practice knowledge.The resident will participate in further development of the program in which he or she is involved, always considering ways to improve the residency for future residents.The resident will participate in recruitment and on-boarding for current and incoming residents, assuring that the process knowledge gained is passed on to future learners.Minimum QualificationsGraduate of an accredited school of pharmacy (degree will be verified).Current license as a pharmacist by state in which one practices.- and -Controlled substance license.- and -Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providersCurrent knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents.- and -Completion certificate for PGY1 residency.Preferred QualificationsBoard certification in Pharmacotherapy Specialty.Experience in an inpatient hospital environment.
