Intermountain Healthcare Chief Financial Officer - Castell - Salt Lake City, UT in Salt Lake City, Utah

Job Description:

The CFO has overall accountability for leading all financial matters of Castell including financial planning and analysis, financial controls, financial reporting, and pricing of services. This role partners with payer contracting, supply chain, etc. on financial aspects of contracting and other functions of the organization, while maintaining a collaborative team-based approach in helping Castell leadership address the wide diversity of challenges facing the organization. The position also leads the development of longer-term financial strategy, including innovative approaches to the financing of health care.

The Finance Executive position will have overall accountability for leading all financial matters of Castell including financial planning and analysis, oversight of financial components of value-based contracts, financial controls, financial reporting, and pricing of services. This role will also partner with payer contracting, hospitals, physician groups, supply chain, and others on financial aspects of contracting and other functions of the organization, while maintaining a collaborative team-based approach in helping Castell leadership address the wide diversity of challenges facing the organization. The position will also lead the development of longer-term financial strategy, including innovative approaches to the financing of health care. The position is a key leader on value-based service delivery, helping the organization drive to desired results and outcomes.

The position will report to the Community Based Care Chief Financial Officer with a strong accountability to the Castell President/CEO. He/she will be a member of the Executive Leadership Team and will also be part of the staff for the Castell Board of Managers, Executive Committee of the Board, and other committees of the Board. Responsible for sound internal control over financial reporting.

Essential Job Duties

  • Responsible for developing and implementing pricing strategies for Castell products and services across varying markets and participants.

  • Partners closely with Castell’s Population Health team to develop financial terms associated with sub-capitation arrangements, bundled payment arrangements, physician payment models, etc.

  • Directs and has oversight of financial operations including developing, recommending, implementing and controlling Castell’s financial planning and monitoring systems.

  • Directs the financial services of Castell including consolidated financial planning, reporting, forecasting, and analysis. Ensures financial statements and operational reports are prepared in a timely, accurate fashion.

  • Identifies and monitors medical expense trends and supports the development of the implementation of medical expense improvement initiatives.

  • Works with payers to monitor and implement effective financial processes such as IBNR estimation and reconciliation and retrospective reconciliation of financial arrangements in value-based contracts.

  • Oversees and validates payment models with an understanding of their impact on Castell and the broader Intermountain organization.

  • Identifies financial/operational problems and performance improvement opportunities, as well as new program needs, and prepares and implements solutions.

  • Partners with Intermountain’s payer contracting function in all markets to oversee the growth and administration of value-based payer contracts and makes recommendations that consider contracting, medical management, provider/member relations, sales and marketing, and claims administration.

  • Provides leadership, education, advice and counsel to management, faculty and staff as these relate to value-based care financial management and performance.

  • Collaborates with senior financial and operational leaders across the Intermountain enterprise, leading efforts on population health and value-based care.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree is verified.

  • Certified Public Accountant

  • Ten (10) years of CFO experience in a high-level management position in a healthcare delivery system environment and/or executive financial leadership experience in a health plan, population health services organization or health insurance organization.

  • Must have a strong understanding of Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, budgeting, accounting, cost accounting, tax-exempt financing, managed care, insurance, real estate, and government regulations as they relate to health care.

  • Capacity to understand impact of benefit package design and population health initiatives and provider contracts.

  • Demonstrated ability to present complex financial information in a manner that produces action and results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mastery of complex risk revenue flow of funds and management company dynamics.

  • Experience in alternative payment models and/or Medicare programs (MSSP, MA, CJR, BCPI).
