Job Summary

Dr. Deanna Kepka’s main research interests are the gaps in health care access and quality for vulnerable populations as related to cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship. She focuses specifically on preventing cervical cancer and other HPV -related cancers among vulnerable patient populations locally and globally. Presently, she is developing, testing, and evaluating HPV vaccination intervention programs within the context of the COVID -19 pandemic that build trust in our healthcare systems, prioritize adolescent immunizations, and ensure accessibility to vaccines for vulnerable patient populations in the Mountain West including rural and diverse communities. She is the Founding Director of the 400+ member 12-state Intermountain West HPV Vaccination Coalition.

The successful candidate will join a research team with a portfolio of needs assessment, intervention, and dissemination/implementation studies. The programs manager is responsible for assisting the Principal Investigator and team leadership to plan, organize, direct, implement, and manage all aspects research, clinical, and coalition projects. This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.

Responsibilities

1. Assists in project implementation and management of research, clinical, and coalition projects.

2. Attends project meetings with research partners, provides on-site training to partners on research and clinical procedures necessary for project implementation, and serves as a liaison between partners.

3. Assists in the preparation of grant applications and the development and maintenance of project protocols, study procedures, data collection procedures, and study and outreach materials.

4. Assists in participant recruitment and oversees data collection and management.

5. Supports project management activities and performs project-relevant administrative tasks, such as preparing and submitting technical reports (e.g., IRB submission documents, annual and quarterly progress reports), ensuring IRB compliance, overseeing supplies inventory, communicating with research partners and other stakeholders, scheduling and monitoring team members work schedule, and organizing and attending project meetings.

6. Both assists and leads the preparation of scientific manuscripts.

7. Reviews scientific literature and serves as a resource to provide clinical and scientific information needed for various initiatives.

8. Assists in community engagement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two years of related experience or equivalency. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Preferences

Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

Master’s degree in psychology, public health, or other relevant social or population sciences.

Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes to effectively monitor and develop staff and to ensure the smooth operation of Dr. Kepka’s research team activities. The successful candidate must have strong communication skills (both oral and written), organizational skills, computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the willingness to learn and develop additional computer skills related to data collection and management (e.g., RedCap). Ability to speak Spanish is also highly desirable.
