Job Summary

The Center for Health Outcomes and Population Equity ( HOPE ) at the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Institute is accepting applications for a Programs Manager. The Center for HOPE , headed by Dr. David Wetter, conducts community-based and clinical research that focuses on health inequities, behavioral risk factors, cancer screening and vaccination, and use of state of the science mobile health technologies for both assessment and intervention. Special populations of interest include Latinos, American Indians/Alaska Natives, African Americans, LGBTQ+, low socioeconomic status individuals, and rural/frontier. The research scientist will have the opportunity to participate in NIH - and PCORI -funded intervention, mechanism, and dissemination/implementation studies. Treatment approaches include smartphone apps, motivational enhancement therapies, mindfulness meditation, cognitive behavioral interventions, and health care system changes. Assessment approaches include on-body human sensing technologies and ecological momentary assessments. Study designs include Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trials ( SMART ), Micro-Randomized Trials ( MRT ), and longitudinal cohorts.

The successful candidate will join an established research team with a large portfolio of federally-funded intervention, mechanism, and dissemination/implementation studies. The programs manager is responsible for assisting the Principal Investigator and team leadership to plan, organize, direct, implement, and manage all aspects of the Center’s research and clinical projects. Responsibilities

1.Assists in project implementation and management of the Center’s research and clinical projects.

2.Attends project meetings with research partners, provides on-site training to partners on research and clinical procedures necessary for project implementation, and serves as a liaison between the Center and research partners.

3.Assists in the preparation of grant applications and the development and maintenance of project protocols, study procedures, data collection procedures, and study and outreach materials.

4.Assists in participant recruitment and oversees data collection and management.

5.Supports project management activities and performs project-relevant administrative tasks, such as preparing and submitting technical reports (e.g., IRB submission documents, annual and quarterly progress reports), ensuring IRB compliance, overseeing supplies inventory, communicating with research partners and other stakeholders about current and planned Center’s projects, scheduling and monitoring team members work schedule, and organizing and attending project meetings.

6.Both assists and leads the preparation of scientific manuscripts.

7.Reviews scientific literature and serves as a resource to provide clinical and scientific information needed for various Center’s initiatives.

8.Assists in the Center’s community engagement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences

Master’s degree in psychology, public health, or other relevant social or population sciences is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop staff and to ensure the smooth operation of the Center. The successful candidate must have strong communication skills (both oral and written), organizational skills, computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the willingness to learn and develop additional computer skills related to data collection and management (e.g., RedCap).

Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills preferred.
