The Department of Surgery at the University of Utah highly values Advanced Practice Clinicians ( APC ) in our clinical operations in both inpatient and ambulatory practice. The Division of General Surgery Section of Surgical Oncology is looking for an Advanced Practice Clinician (NP/PA) who is a patient focused, self-motivated provider who has the ability to work effectively in an academic team environment. Our APCs are an important member of our team and work collaboratively with the team physicians as well as independently. In addition to working in a world class institution with excellent

benefits, there is ongoing education with weekly Grand Rounds, practice standards guided by evidence based research, and opportunities for project and research involvement.

Job Summary:

The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery: Section of Oncology, surgeons group, located primarily at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital is seeking an advanced practice clinician to join the team.

This APC position includes assistance to the resident team with inpatient care, some outpatient clinic visits with faculty providers, including some minor procedures in clinic, the option for an autonomous surveillance clinic is possible, and some operating room first assisting is possible. The APC will have

graduated responsibilities for patient assessment and minor procedures, starting with supervision by attending surgeons. Common office procedures may include wound care, removal of implanted vascular

access devices, and fat pad biopsy.

Responsibilities

Assistance with inpatient daily rounds, patient discharge coordination, and inpatient consultations.

Outpatient clinic 1-3 days /week.

Assist in operating room as needed, 0-2 days per week depending on operative case load.

Shared responsibility for teaching residents, medical students and APC students

Active participation in developing and implementing quality improvement measures

Participation in team meetings, education conferences, and special projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Nationally certified as a Nurse Practitioner as required under State Law. Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area; and demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills are required.

Utah State prescriptive privileges preferred.

Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination. UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
