Job Summary
The Division of Pediatric Neonatology at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Research Nurse. Assists in facilitating the conduct of clinical research by performing research and clinical duties. Provides patient care within the scope of nursing practice and in compliance with guidelines set by governing agencies. Actual skills and responsibilities may vary according to the specific research project.
Telecommuting arrangements may be possible.
Due to funding constraints, this is a time-limited position that will end on June 30, 2021. Continued employment beyond this date is dependent upon additional grant funding.
Responsibilities
1.Assists in facilitating the conduct of clinical research by performing research and clinical duties.
2.Identifies potential patients for enrollment in clinical research studies.
3.Informs parents/guardians of eligible infants of details regarding the study and seeks informed consent.
4.Assures judicious implementation of clinical studies: may involve setting up equipment, randomization, and data extraction from medical records; collection of body fluid(s); and administration of a drug, placebo or other intervention.
5.Gathers data for analysis to determine the efficacy of certain drugs, devices and/or test procedures.
6.Analyzes the patient’s condition and effectiveness of the particular protocol to determine other potential factors in accounting for certain results.
7.Maintains investigational logs and records of drugs administered, medical devices monitored and procedures followed.
8.Prepares reports.
9.Coordinates with referring physicians to provide information regarding available research.
10.Performs other patient care and related duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Often: Infectious disease, oils ( there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids ), hazards ( includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals ).
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required
Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.
Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.
Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications
RN license in the state of Utah plus two years related experience required. Depending on area of assignment, CCRP , ACRP - CRC , SOCRA - CCRP certification may be required. A current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider Card certification or obtain one within 6 months of employment required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
The hiring department may also prefer experience in a specific area of nursing

Preferences
•Prior experience in neonatal intensive care unit with high-risk neonatal patients.
•Prior research experience or an understanding of research procedures and knowledge of FDA regulations and IRB procedures.
