Overview

University of Utah Health is growing, and we're seeking a Senior Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion to join our Human Resources leadership team in our new chapter!

The Senior Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion is responsible for recognizing and coordinating all efforts to define, understand, assess, foster, and cultivate diversity and inclusion throughout University of Utah Health-Hospitals and Clinics (UUHC).

This position will develop and oversee programs, services, and initiatives designed to enhance the recruitment and successful retention of staff, from diverse and under-represented population groups.

A key feature of this position is that they will lead the anti-racism compliance reviews of UUHC policies and procedures. This role is a strategic partner within UUHC Human Resources, and with the UUHC Executive Leadership team including participation with the UUHC Operations Council.

The Senior Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer and maintain strong collaborative relationships with partners across the health system.

This Senior Director will also collaborate with the leadership team of the Associate Vice President for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. This position will function as a member of the UUHC HR Leadership Team, and will interact with many committee memberships with School of Medicine and Academic peers, as well as staff across the entire healthcare organization, including the broader University.

Eligible applicants must have:

• A completed Bachelor's level degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience, with an emphasis in anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion, education, or talent development.

Responsibilities

  • Anti-Racism work: Recognizing that systemic racism exists in UUHC, this person will develop anti-racism plans to help all to overcome this wherever it is found.

  • Create a cohesive, global and UUHC business-focused Anti-Racism strategy and help to operationalize it into a substantial working plan.

  • Work with the UUHC Director of Community Engagement (DCE) to link with community leaders to examine ways to foster education and growth opportunities for members of our Black and other diverse populations that will lead to job opportunities within UUHC.

  • Consult with senior business leaders on inclusion strategies that will enable UUHC business performance.

  • By coordinating with DCE, they will engage and network with the broader community to learn, lead and partner on matters of diversity and inclusion; strategically aligning with outside organizations and internal University of Utah partners to help augment their strategy, and create ground-breaking thought-leadership.

  • Create with UUHC senior leadership a cohesive and expansive anti-racism and diversity plan, and assist with the implementation of UUHC corporate anti-racist, equity, diversity and inclusion strategies, including retention, recruitment, performance management, leadership development, and employee engagement.

  • Create accountability measures with UUHC leaders for both anti-racist actions, compositional diversity, and inclusion.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and partner to the UUHC business by continuously analyzing and presenting talent demographics, monitoring data trends and providing insights into the data collected.

  • Create and provide training for UUHC staff and leaders regarding unconscious bias, micro-aggression, and other targeted trainings as needed, along with accountability measures. Partner with the UUHC management and staff councils to ensure effective leadership, development, and coordination of employee resource groups

  • Identify, build, align and sustain community partnerships to support UUHC corporate culture, diversity and inclusion projects/plans/initiatives and business strategies to identify and promote a consistent methodology and identification throughout UUHC.

  • Encouraging and moderating open and practical conversation to lead UUHC teams to a greater understanding of diversity and inclusion.

  • Build bold, creative anti-racism and diversity initiatives that demonstrate leadership as a leader, innovator, ambassador, collaborator, partner, and catalyst in mobilizing employees along the diversity and inclusion journey.

  • Contributes as a key member of the UUHC human resource leadership team and other committees addressing various strategic outcomes and initiatives.

  • Develops analytics, metrics, dashboards and reports for UUHC managers and leaders in relation to business needs and objectives.

  • Directs interdisciplinary projects which have an impact on the overall operation and strategic direction of UUHC including developing strategies consistent with the UUHC continuous quality improvement program.

  • Manages and promotes continuous process improvements in assigned area(s). Analyzes data to identify and recommend new processes, procedures and improvements within the UUHC business operation.

  • Strong working knowledge of local, state and federal laws pertaining to employment and employment practices.

  • Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills.

  • Knowledge of anti-racist, equity, diversity and inclusion practices and demonstrated strategic planning skills

  • Knowledge of budgeting practices, reporting analysis, and forecasting.

  • Knowledge of information technology, data analysis and other efficiency tools.

  • Confident in facilitating, presenting and speaking to both internal and external audiences

  • Proven track record of leading company-wide initiatives with multiple stakeholders

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills; able to turn data into insights and a compelling narrative on impact

  • Ability to interact and influence at all levels, drive change and work on multiple initiatives simultaneously

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding and expertise of D&I and knowledge of global trends

  • Demonstrate proficiency to engage, influence and work with an executive leadership team

  • Experience in initiation, leadership, and execution of projects and programs of significant size and scope

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related area or equivalency.

  • Ten years of progressive management experience.
