State of Utah - Jobs Utah Public Health Laboratory Director in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Are you a Director of a CLIA certified lab? Are you ready to take the next step in your laboratory management career? The Utah Department of Health,Public Health Laboratory (UPHL) needs you as the lab Director to provide administrative and scientific oversight of the Unified State Laboratories for Public Health. The laboratories include Infectious Disease,Chemistry-Environmental Services,Forensic Toxicology,Newborn Screening,Laboratory Improvement,and Management Services. You will provide a strong strategic vision to help UPHL make innovations and improvements that take UPHL to new levels of success. In order to qualify for this position per CLIA regulations,you must have earned doctoral degree in a chemical,physical,biological,or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution and hold a current national board certification that meets the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services requirements of a high complexity lab director OR be a doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy in Utah with a certification in clinical pathology. Travel is required for this position. Due to the nature of this position,compliance to the Utah Department of Health Employee Immunization policy is required.Principal DutiesAs the UPHL Director,you will: * Manage and provide vision and leadership to guide the strategic direction of the Unified State Laboratory,a CLIA certified laboratory performing high complexity testing. * Provide direction to lab sections on innovations and improvements to processes and systems to improve quality and efficiency of services * Seek grants to help the lab innovate,make improvements,and improve or expand capacities * Provide laboratory consultation in specialized areas of knowledge. * Analyze and test items,interpret results and implement changes as necessary. * Develop and coordinate plans and policies within available resources to meet the mission and strategic objectives of the organization. * Set goals,establishes priorities,manage resources,develop concepts and approaches,review projects progress and results. * Monitor budget,including revenues,expenditures and budget projection,etc. * Review and-or evaluate reports,documents,laws,rules,and regulations,and implements changes. * Develop strong internal and external partnerships. * Ensure compliance with applicable federal and-or state laws,regulations,agency rules,standards and guidelines,etc. * Supervise personnel including hiring and performance management; initiates corrective and-or disciplinary action as necessary. * Perform other tasks as assigned.The Ideal Candidate * Has extensive experience as a director in a CLIA Certified lab. * Strong management-supervisory experience,including managing a large complex lab. * Has partnership development skills. * Has strong oral and written communication skills. * Has experience applying for and managing grants. * Has experience with quality improvement efforts in a lab setting.Why You Should Join Our TeamThis is an opportunity to make a difference.
